The Lehman College men's volleyball team (1-5 Overall, 0-3 CUNYAC) dropped a pair of conference matches Saturday afternoon, falling to the Baruch College Bearcats by scores of 14-30, 15-30, and 20-30, and losing to the Bridges of Brooklyn College by scores of 28-30, 28-30, and 25-30 at York College in Jamaica, New York.
In Lehman's first game of the day against Baruch, the Lightning were turned back despite a terrific effort from sophomore Jonathan Cruz who tallied 10 kills to go along with seven assists and three service aces. Setter Nate Martin also chipped in with seven kills, 12 assists, and nine digs and sophomore RJ LeBlanc contributed with eight kills and three digs. As a team, the Lightning hit just .070 while Baruch hit .430.
For the Bearcats in the victory Matt McKee led the way with 11 kills and five blocks. Radu Wyrwas had a solid all-around match with 32 assists, eight kills and nine digs. Ratmir Gorelik contributed 10 digs and Kirill Yagnetinskiy had four blocks.
In Lehman's match against Brooklyn, the teams went toe-to-toe in each set, but it was the Bridges recording a 3-0 win. Despite the loss for the Lightning, Cruz led the way with 15 kills and eight digs while LeBlanc also put forth a fine all-around match with 14 kills, five digs, and three service aces.
In the victory for the Bridges, David Choy posted a match-high 21 kills to go along with 11 digs while Kwan Tong Ma added 10 kills and eight digs. As a team, the Bridges hit .211.
The Lightning will look to get back on track Tuesday evening as the York College Cardinals come to the APEX Center, with match-time scheduled for 7:00pm.
