MEN'S VOLLEYBALL DROPS NON-CONFERENCE MATCH TO SUNY PURCHASE AT APEX CENTER

The Lehman Lightning men's volleyball team (5-11 Overall, 3-7 CUNYAC) dropped a non-conference match Thursday evening, falling to the Panthers of SUNY Purchase (10-8 Overall, 4-2 Skyline) by scores of 30-28, 30-28, and 30-21.

 

John Ray led the way for the panthers with nine kills to go along with five digs and three service aces while hitting .462 on the night. Setter Chris Shank tallied a match-high 34 assists to go along with five kills, and Bic Cass and Daniel Grabowski-Clark also contributed to the victory with eight kills apiece.

Despite the lost for the lightning, junior RJ LeBlanc tallied a match-high 13 kills to go along with five services aces and four digs, while Jonathan Cruz added eight kills and four digs. Setter Nate Martin also contributed with 12 assists, seven digs, and three kills on the night. Following the match, Head Coach Daniel Skilins gave his thoughts.

 

“There are definitely things that we need to be doing better, and hopefully we can figure things out in ample time, because we have two important conference matches on Saturday,” Skilins said. “We need to be on the same page with each other more, and I feel right now that is an issue.”

 

SUNY Purchase hit .267 on the evening, while the Lightning hit just .034. The Panthers tallied 42 kills to Lehman's 28, and Purchase also had 35 assists compared to 25 for the Lightning.
 
The Lightning will return to action Saturday morning as the team travels to CCNY's Nat Holman Gymnasium for two CUNYAC matches. Lehman will battle the Yellow Jackets of New York City College of Technology at 9:00am before battling the Cougars of Medgar Evers College at 11:00am.
