The Lehman College men's volleyball team (0-2 Overall, 0-0 CUNYAC) dropped their second consecutive match to begin the 2010 campaign as the Raptors of Bard College defeated the Lightning by scores of 30-25, 30-28, 24-30, and 31-29 Saturday afternoon at the Stevenson Gymnasium in Annadale-on-Hudson, NY.
In the victory for the Raptors, Bard College was led by Henry Schenker who put forth a phenomenal performance as he tallied a team-high 16 kills to go along with 18 assists and 14 digs while hitting .214 for the afternoon. In addition, Nick Chan contributed with 14 kills, a team-high 24 assists, and seven digs, and Elijah Strauss contributed with 10 kills and a team-high 16 digs. On the day, the Raptors hit .121.
Despite the loss for Lehman College, standout junior Nate Martin tallied match-highs with 22 kills and 18 digs to go along with three services aces while hitting .514 on the afternoon. RJ LeBlanc also contributed with 17 kills to go along with 12 digs and a pair of service aces, and Angel Fernandez added 42 assists, 11 digs, and four block solos. Following the match, head coach Wolfgang Lucena gave his thoughts.
“We played hard this afternoon and we were in every set, but we just couldn't finish,” Lucena said. “I'm very pleased with our intensity and the way we came out. Hopefully we'll take some things from this afternoon's loss and we'll be ready to come out and get a win on Thursday.”
Lehman College will return to action on Thursday evening as the Lightning will battle Yeshiva University in a non-conference match at the APEX Center, with start-time scheduled for 7:30pm.
