MEN'S VOLLEYBALL STAYS HOT WITH FOUR SET VICTORY OVER MEDGAR EVERS AT THE APEX

Box Score

The Lehman College men's volleyball team (5-4 Overall, 3-2 CUNYAC) defeated Medgar Evers College in a CUNYAC contest on Thursday evening by scores of 30-15, 30-17, 29-31, and 30-17 at the APEX Center in the Bronx.

The Lightning cruised through the first two sets, winning both in convincing fashion. The third set proved to be a difficult one for Lehman, but the Lightning still had an excellent chance to wrap up shop as the team held a 29-26 lead, needing just one point to put a bow on the victory. The Cougars showed heart and battled back though, notching the final five points of the match to force a fourth set. Lehman would bounce back to take the fourth set and the match.

Leading the way for the Lightning in the victory was senior RJ LeBlanc as the standout posted a match-high of 20 kills to go along with six digs in the triumph while hitting an impressive .364 on the evening with only four errors. Nate Martin put forth a tremendous evening as well with 19 kills, 11 digs, and six service aces, and Angel Fernandez continued his stellar season by posting a match-high 40 assists to go along with his seven digs. Following the match, head coach Wolfgang Lucena gave his thoughts.

“There are things that we did very well tonight, and then there were some things that I feel we need to improve on, but that will come in time,” Lucena said. “We started the season 0-2 but we've won five of our last seven and I feel as though we're rolling right now. Hopefully we can keep the momentum going.”

Despite the loss for Medgar Evers, Jason Brown led the team with nine kills and 14 digs. Phillip Parris added a team-high of 23 assists to go along with seven digs while Christian Rodriguez helped with nine digs.

The Lightning return to action Tuesday evening as Lehman will take on SUNY Purchase in a non-conference match at the APEX Center, with start-time scheduled for 5:00pm. Following that battle, the Lightning will face Ramapo College at 7:00pm.
