Lehman College vs. Ramapo College Box Score
The Lehman College men's volleyball team (6-5 Overall, 3-2 CUNYAC) split a pair of non-conference matches on Tuesday evening, defeating the Panthers of SUNY Purchase (1-4 Overall, 0-3 Skyline) by scores of 30-19, 30-20, and 30-19 before falling to the Roadrunners of Ramapo College by scores of 20-30, 28-30, and 14-30 at the APEX Center in the Bronx.
In the first match of the evening, the Lightning did a good job of imposing their will on the Panthers and taking control of the match in the early stages. For the match, Nate Martin and RJ LeBlanc tallied six kills apiece while Angel Fernandez added 15 assists and three digs. For the match, the Lightning hit .194 while the Panthers hit - .090.
The Lightning's second match of the day saw Lehman put forth a hard-fought effort in falling short to NECVA power Ramapo College. Despite the loss for the Lightning, LeBlanc posted a team-high 10 kills to go along with six digs while Martin added five kills and nine digs. Fernandez had 16 digs, and Kelvis Castro added four kills and nine digs.
In the victory for the Roadrunners, it was Steve Vahalla posting a match-high 17 kills while Matt Scott added a match-high 38 assists. Paul Konopacki finishing the evening with seven kills and three digs, and Elvis Cabrera finalized his night with six kills. Kurt Backlund added 13 digs.
Following the two matches, head coach Wolfgang Lucena gave his thoughts.
“I felt as though we played really well against both of these teams tonight,” Lucena said. “We came out with a lot of fire in both matches, and that really impressed me. I feel as though this team is always prepared to play and the chemistry of the group is really growing. I'm excited about what we can accomplish if we continue to get better.”
The Lightning will return to action on Thursday evening as the team will battle the Yellow Jackets of New York City College of Technology in a CUNYAC contest, with game-time scheduled for 7:00pm.
