The Lehman College men's volleyball team (7-6 Overall, 4-3 CUNYAC) dropped a CUNYAC match to Hunter College (10-7 Overall, 8-1 CUNYAC) on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Hawks by scores of 20-30, 17-30, and 14-30 at the Hunter Sportsplex in New York, NY.
In the victory for the Hawks, Eric Barty tallied a match-high 12 kills to go along with eight digs while hitting .611 on the afternoon. Christopher Newcomb added nine kills, eight digs and two service aces, and the versatile Zacarias Ripoll added 22 assists, eight kills, six digs, and four block assists.
Despite the loss for the Lightning, RJ LeBlanc tallied a team-high eight kilsl to go along with four digs and a pair of block assists, and Nate Martin added six kills and six digs. Kelvis Castro completed his afternoon with seven digs and five kills, and Angel Fernandez tallied 16 assists to go along with his four digs. Following the match, head coach Wolfgang Lucena gave his thoughts.
“Today was a tough match for us, but I'm confident that we take a little bit out of each loss, just as we do each win,” Lucena said. “Hunter College is a very good team that really tests us, and I think we will only improve from what we learn when we play them. We'll shake this one off and get ready for Brooklyn College on Thursday.”
The Lightning will travel to Brooklyn to battle the Bulldogs in another CUNYAC match this Thursday evening, with start-time at the West Quad Gymnasium scheduled for 7:00pm.
