MEN'S VOLLEYBALL TEAM SPLITS PAIR OF NON-CONFERENCE MATCHES ON SATURDAY

The Lehman College men's volleyball team (8-7 Overall, 4-3 CUNYAC) took the floor for the first time in a week, defeating the Dolphins of the College of Mount Saint Vincent (10-6 Overall) by scores of 30-14, 30-22, and 30-26 before falling to the Stevenson University Mustangs by scores of 28-30, 18-30, and 26-30 Saturday afternoon at Mount Saint Vincent's Hayes Gymnasium in Riverdale, NY.

 

In the Lightning's victory over the Dolphins, Lehman College was led by the stellar effort of Nate Martin who put forth a dominating performance, tallying a match-high 15 kills to go along with 10 digs while hitting .467 for the match and committing just one hitting error in 30 attempts. Junior RJ LeBlanc added nine kills, while Kelvis Castro tallied six kills, eight digs, and five block assists. Angel Fernandez recorded a match-high 31 assists, and newcomer Aris Ducasse chipped in with six kills and 10 digs.

 

As a team, the Lightning hit .283 for the match while recording 42 kills and committing just 12 hitting errors (four per set) while Mount Saint Vincent hit just .024 collectively while committing a whopping 33 hitting errors and recording 36 kills. Lehman College also had 14 block assists compared to six for the Dolphins, and the Lightning recorded 37 assists compared to Mount Saint Vincent's 32.

 

Despite the loss for the Dolphins, Rob Hockenjos tallied a match-high 11 kills to go along with eight digs, while Matt Krauszer added nine kills and four digs. Michael Quinn tallied a team-high 29 assists, and Chris Bacchi and Michael Sin chipped in with six kills apiece.

 

In Lehman College's loss to Stevenson University, the Lightning were led by Ducasse's 12 kills and six digs, while Martin finished the match with 11 kills and nine digs. LeBlanc chipped in with seven kills, and Fernandez added a team-high 34 assists.

 

Pacing the Mustangs in their victory was Jason Matkowski who tallied a match-high 14 kills to go along with three digs and three block assists, while Robert Kryger added 10 kills, four service aces, and four block assists. Kyle Diller helped out as well with eight kills 17 assists, and Dean Massimini added a team-high 24 assists.

 

The Lightning will return to action on Tuesday evening as Lehman College will participate in a pair of matches at the APEX Center. The Lightning will take on Cooper Union in a non-conference match at 5:00pm before battling the York College Cardinals in a conference match at 7:00pm.
