MEN'S VOLLEYBALL TEAM CLAIMS VICTORIES OVER CITY TECH AND MEDGAR EVERS ON SATURDAY

The Lehman College men's volleyball team (11-7 Overall, 7-3 CUNYAC) picked up a pair of conference victories on Saturday morning, turning back the Yellow Jackets of New York City College of Technology by scores of 30-26, 30-23, 20-30, 19-30, and 15-7 before easily downing the Cougars of Medgar Evers in three sets by scores of 30-18, 30-19, and 30-12 at the City College of New York's Nat Holman Gymnasium in upper Manhattan. The Lightning have now won three consecutive matches overall, and are 11-5 over their last 16 after beginning the season 0-2.

 

In Lehman's thrilling five-set triumph over the Yellow Jackets, junior RJ LeBlanc paced his squad by talling nine kills and four block solos. Kelvis Castro also chipped in with 10 kills while Nate Martin helped with 13 kills and four assists. Angel Fernandez put forth a tremendous performance in the victory as he tallied 46 assists.

 

The Lightning didn't have much time to catch their breath before their next match which was against the Cougars, but Lehman College was still able to defeat Medgar Evers convincingly. In the victory for the Lightning, LeBlanc posted 15 kills and added four block solos, while Aris Ducasse helped out with 11 kills and Martin finished with 13 kills and four digs. Hernandez completed the match with 35 assists. Following the victories, Lehman College head coach Wolfgang Lucena gave his thoughts.

 

“We're playing really well right now, and it's wonderful to see,” Lucena said. “Our confidence is really high. The players believe in each other and they have developed tremendous chemistry, and it's great to see us playing our best volleyball as the CUNY tournament approaches.

 

The Lightning will return to action Monday evening as Lehman College will travel to Brooklyn to battle the Brooklyn College Bulldogs in a CUNYAC contest, with match-time scheduled for 6:00pm.
