The Lehman College baseball team (7-15 Overall, 2-7 CUNYAC) dropped a non-conference game to the Privateers of SUNY Maritime (8-13 Overall) by a score of 12-1 Wednesday evening. SUNY Maritime scored nine runs in the bottom of the second inning and never looked back, cruising to victory from there.
Anthony Tenga got the start and the victory for the Privateers, as he hurled five innings and allowed just one run (earned) on four hits while walking a batter and striking out three. Four other pitchers – Dan Anderson, Connor Burke, Trevor Canella, and Andrew Mayer pitched an inning apiece and combined for four shutout frames, allowing just four hits collectively while striking out four batters.
Jeremy Perez got the start for the Lightning and he took the loss, hurling the first two innings and giving up nine runs, however only two of the runs were earned. He allowed five hits while walking one and striking out one. Arturo Lazaro Jr. relieved Perez and he allowed three runs in 3.2 innings of relief, however all runs allowed were unearned. He gave up two hits while walking four and striking out four. The Lightning were victimized by a total of six errors in the game.
Offensively for SUNY Maritime, Greg Oliva finished the evening 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, three runs scored, and a run batted in. AJ McPartlan went 1-for-2 with a homerun, two runs scored, two rubs batted in and two walks.
For the Lightning, a few bright spots offensively were rookie Jhon Comas Disla (he picked up a pair of hits, including a double) and Jeremy Lopez (he went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and a run batted in.) George Flores finished 1-for-3 despite the loss while scoring Lehman College's lone run on the evening.
Lehman College will return to action on Saturday afternoon as the Lightning will take to the road to battle the Bearcats of Baruch College in a crucial CUNYAC doubleheader. The first game begins at noon.
