The Lehman College baseball team (8-21 Overall, 3-9 CUNYAC) dropped a non-conference game on Friday evening – falling to the Roadrunners of Ramapo College by a score of 17-4 at the South Field in the Bronx. The loss was the fifth straight for the Lightning.
Lehman ace Brian Cubero got the start and took the loss for his club, hurling six-plus innings and allowing nine runs (eight earned) on seven hits while walking eight and striking out six. James Knight started and won for the Roadrunners, tossing eight innings and allowing four runs (one earned) on five hits while walking two and striking out 13.
Ramapo College took control of the game early and never looked back, plating four runs in the top of the first inning to snatch an early 4-0 advantage. The Roadrunner lead ballooned up to five runs after five and a half innings with Ramapo leading it 7-2. After the Lightning dented home plate twice in the bottom of the fifth to make it 7-4, the Roadrunners outscored the Lightning 10-0 over the final four innings to account for the final score.
Offensively for Ramapo College in their victory, it was Dan Moreno putting forth a tremendous effort as he finished 2-for-5 with a homerun, a single, three runs scored, four runs driven in, and a stolen base. Leadoff hitter Pat Driscoll stole four bases, singled, scored a run, drove in a run, and walked twice, and Kevin Knox doubled, singled, finished 2-for-4, stole two bases, scored two runs, drove in a run, and walked twice.
At the dish for the Lightning despite the defeat, Bobby Villante went 2-for-5 with a pair of singles and a run scored. Miguel Sanchez singled twice and drove in a run, and Jhon Comas Disla singled and stole a base.
The Roadrunners were aggressive the entire evening, stealing 12 bases. Lightning pitching also issued 13 walks on the evening, and five of the batters that walked came around to score.
The Lightning will return to action on Wednesday evening as Lehman will battle Yeshiva University in a non-conference doubleheader at the South Field in the Bronx. Lehman College will serve as the road team for the contests, and the first game is scheduled for 5:00pm.
