Volleyball Drops Straight Sets Match to Ramapo

Feb. 2, 2011

Box Score

Hoping to end its current three game slide, the Lehman men's volleyball team could not overtake host Ramapo College on Wednesday night, falling in straight sets 25-19, 25-22, 25-16.

In what has become a pattern early on this season, the Lightning fell behind before settling down and kicking things into gear. After dropping the first set and trailing throughout the second, the Lightning did close to 22-21 on R.J. LeBlanc's kill. But Ramapo would run off the last three points to take a commanding 2-0 set lead.

The Lightning's three previous matches all were pushed to at least a fourth set; however, that would not happen against the Roadrunners as they turned a 5-5 third set into a 17-10 advantage. Ramapo's Nick Hrehovcik and Jeff Jones combined for five kills over the decisive 12-5 burst that effectively ended any chance the Lightning had.

Lehman was led by Miguel Gallardo, who slammed home 10 kills, and Nate Martin's 14 assists and eight digs. Luis Colon also added eight digs for the Lightning.

For the victorious Roadrunners, Jones was high man with 11 kills while Paul Konopacki registered nine kills. Andrew Balint was on the mark with his passing as he recorded 33 assists.

With its fourth straight loss the Lightning now stands at 1-5 on the season. The team returns to action on Saturday as part of a City University of New York multi-match at Baruch College where they will play the City College of New York and Brooklyn College.
