Box Score
BRONX, N.Y. - Few, if any, college programs in the metropolitan area can boast of a fully digital scoreboard on which its teams are displayed, let alone one that is 20-by-13 feet and high definition.
Well, from now on, the Lehman Lightning can be added to that very short list, as the Lehman Athletics department unveiled its new high tech scoreboard on the South Field on Monday night to the delight of players and spectators alike as the home team took on the visiting John Jay Bloodhounds.
Making the night even better, the Lightning men held up their end of the bargain, topping John Jay 2-1 to improve to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
And fittingly, it was the Lightning who notched the first crooked number ever placed on the scoreboard when
Carlos Ribeiro knocked in a header off a corner kick by Will Arbieto-Lopez to give Lehman the early 1-0 lead in the 13th minute.
As has been the case over its last few games, the Lightning had additional chances to extend its lead only to be turned aside by the Bloodhounds keeper, Vitecha Vochaon, who faced nine shots on goal by the Lehman attack on the night.
The home team's inability to convert nearly came back to haunt it as when Christian Munoz notched the equalizer in the 57th minute off a feed from Ganama Issouf.
A tense 25-plus minutes of soccer ensued following Munoz's goal, as the Bloodhounds seemed a step quicker to the ball than their Lightning counterparts.
But luckily for the Lightning junior
Thaddeus Ikwuka was able to bang home a bounding ball in front of the net off a corner kick by Arbieto-Lopez in the 84th minute to untie the score.
Lehman nearly added an insurance goal minutes later when one of the Bloodhounds almost knocked a ball past Vochaon before Vochaon steered the ball over the crossbar to keep John Jay within striking distance.
John Jay would eventually run out of time, though, as the Lightning held on for the 2-1 win.
In the win the Lightning managed to squeeze off 20 shots to the Bloodhounds 10.
Lehman next travels to Staten Island on Wednesday afternoon to face a Dolphins team that comes off a 7-1 pasting of the City College of New York.
