Box Score

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - There are few better ways to start a season than to do so with a win, which is exactly what the Lehman men's volleyball team achieved against the host College of Mount Saint Vincent on Thursday night, defeating the Dolphins in five thrilling sets by the scores of 25-14, 23-25, 25-22, 22-25, 15-11.

Luis Colon led the way for the Lightning with a game-high 17 kills to go along with 24 digs.

Sophomore Miguel Gallardo, operating out of the setter position which he manned so capably as a rookie in 2011, tallied 47 assists.  The NCAA's leader in services aces per set a year ago contributed three strikes from the back line against Mount.  He also registered 16 digs.

Mount Saint Vincent was fronted by Chris Bacchi's 15 kills, while Timothy Kolodny had 17 digs.

Tied at two sets a piece, the Lightning rattled off the first seven points of the deciding set.  Mount battled back to within 11-10 with the help of a 5-0 run, but the Lightning took four of the next five points on kills by Orlando Vargas, Manuel Bonilla, Colon and Gallardo to close out the match.

Its first win in the books, the Lightning will welcome Wentworth College and Stevenson University to the Bronx for a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon beginning at 2 p.m.
