BRONX, N.Y. - The game that took place between the Lehman Lightning and Marymount University on Saturday afternoon at College of Mount St. Vincent's gym was what you would call a tough defensive battle.

Marymount started off strong by shooting the three-point shot well and also playing very good defense in the first half, forcing Lehman into six turnovers, five of which were steals.  Marymount's Jessie Konadu was a spark plug early on, scoring eight points and shooting the ball well from three-point range.  As a result, the Saints held a 27-24 lead at halftime.

Phil Ductan helped keep the Lightning within striking distance with eight points, and both Mathias Raggiotto and Patryk Odedina had five points each to keep it a closely contested game.

In the second half, both teams started sloppily before Marymount went on a mini 7-0 run that began at the 18 minute mark.  Lehman then followed with a mini run of its own.

The game was nip and tuck throughout the second half.  With 30 seconds to go, Marymount's Reed Scott hit a key two-pointer to give the Saints a 49-45 lead, but Kelvin Gil nailed a clutch three-point shot to keep Lehman within one with 13 seconds remaining.  After Marymount's Garrett Snoops hit two free throws to put the Saints up by three with nine seconds left, Ductan advanced the ball upcourt before Lehman head coach Steve Schulman called timeout with just six seconds on the clock.  Following Lehman's strategy session, Sebastian Pessoa had a chance to tie, but could not convert, allowing Marymount to escape with the 51-48 victory.

Leading the way for Lehman was Ductan with 12 points and five rebounds on 5-of-13 shooting, while Gil chipped in with eight points and four rebounds.

For Marymount Reed Scott and Jessie Konadu each led the way with 12 points and John Magnani chipped in with six points and seven rebounds in the winning effort.

The next game for the Lightning will be against conference rival City College of New York on Wednesday, February 1 at 7p.m. at the Nat Holman Gymnasium.
