Men's Basketball Comeback Bid Falls Short, 82-77

BRONX, N.Y. – A fast and furious comeback for the Lehman College men's basketball game fell short, as the Lightning lost to visiting Old Westbury, 82-77, in action on Thursday afternoon.

Lehman (5-3) trailed by 12 points with 2:46 to play, 78-66, the went on to score the next six points, on layups by senior Quaseem Weems (Bronx, N.Y./Beacon) and junior Kelvin Gil (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes), and a free throw by junior guard Erasmo Soto (Harlem, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman), and with just 51 seconds left, Lehman trailed 78-72.

Old Westbury (6-2) made a layup before senior Phil Ductan (Bronx, N.Y./Kima) made a pair of free throws to cut the lead back to six. After another Old Westbury free throw, Soto drained a three-pointer, and the lead was down to just four points with 18 seconds remaining.

Lehman would not be able to overcome the Panthers, falling 82-77.

On the day, Gil led Lehman with 22, followed by Soto with 19. Weems added a double-double, with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

The Lightning return to the APEX to host NJAC rival William Paterson on December 29, at 2:00 p.m.
