Men's Volleyball Splits Pair of Matches with NJCU and Bard

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Lehman men's volleyball team played the maximum amount of allowable sets on Sunday as part of a non-conference tri-match hosted by New Jersey City University, coming away with a split of the day's action against the host Gothic Knights and Bard College to improve to 7-4 on the season.

In the first match the Lightning gave NJCU all it could handle before falling 22-25, 25-19, 25-20, 20-25, 15-10.  Manuel Bonilla led the attack with 13 kills, while Luis Colon added 10 kills and a team-high nine digs.  Miguel Gallardo served up 33 assists.  Lehman registered seven blocks as a team.

Match No. 2 pitted the Lightning against the Raptors of Bard College, and also went the full five sets, with Lehman taking the tight match 29-31, 25-14, 22-25, 25-23, 16-14. 

Lehman actually trailed 12-10, 13-12 and 14-13 in the final set before pulling out the victory with a kill from Orlando Vargas.

Junior Brian Francisco contributed a monster game with 27 kills and a .460 hitting percentage.  Colon slammed 15 kills and also notched 10 digs, while Gallardo served up a whopping 47 assists and collected a team-high 20 digs.

The Lightning returns to action on February 28 when the team travels to Queens for a conference showdown with York College.
