Bloodhounds Pose Little Resistance to Lightning in 3-0 Win

March 1, 2012

Box Score

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Lehman men's volleyball team bounced back from its loss to York College on Tuesday night by taking out its frustrations on host John Jay College, defeating the Bloodhounds 25-6, 25-8, 25-20 to improve to 8-5 on the season.

In command throughout the opening set, the Lightning faced its first sign of resistance from the Bloodhounds at the beginning of the second when John Jay took a 4-1 lead.  Undaunted Lehman proceeded to run off 15 of the next 16 points to take a 2-0 lead.

The Bloodhounds refused to go quietly, though, despite trailing 6-1 early in the third.  Instead they matched the Lightning nearly point for point until four straight points, capped by a Brian Francisco kill, ended the match in Lehman's favor.

A quick look at the boxscore shows somewhat modest stats for the Lightning with Francisco leading the attack with seven kills and Gallardo with a season-low 14 assists.  Lehman, however, did a significant amount of damage from the service line with a season-high 20 aces, led by Luis Colon's seven howitzers from the back line.  The team's previous high of 18 aces also came against John Jay back on February 16.

A win in hand, the Lightning will return to action against Baruch College on Saturday morning as part of a CUNY multi-match at City College of New York.  In the teams' previous meeting the Bearcats prevailed in straight sets but not without a fight from the Lightning.
