BRONX, N.Y. - Facing a resurgent York College at the APEX on Wednesday night, the Lehman men's volleyball team ended the conference portion of its schedule with a 3-1 (25-17, 25-23, 20-25, 25-19) loss to finish the season at 8-6 in the City University of New York Athletic Conference.

Giving up a significant size advantage around the net to the imposing Cardinals, the Lightning went quietly in the opening set as York piled up five blocks to jump out to a 21-8 lead before Lehman made a valiant but late rally to cut the final score to 25-17.

Lehman looked to be on its way to evening the match at one set a piece as the team built a 16-10 lead behind three kills and a service ace from Brian Francisco.  However, seven errors over the next 14 points allowed York to eventually knot things up at 20-20.  The teams traded points all the way to 23-23 until a service error by the Lightning and a kill by Edner Geffard ended the tight set in York's favor 25-23.

Playing with nothing to lose down 2-0 the Lightning bounced back to take the third set behind a balanced attack that featured kills from five of the six players on the court.  Luis Colon slammed four kills and Francisco and Orlando Vargas three for Lehman in the 25-20 set win.

York regained full control in the deciding set as Geffard and Bryan Williams dominated the attack from the front line with 10 combined kills in the decisive 25-19 victory.

Francisco led the Lightning with 12 kills, while Colon and Vargas each tallied nine.  Manuel Bonilla collected a team-leading 10 digs.

With its loss to the Cardinals the Lightning finished the season winless in six attempts against the conference's top three teams of Hunter, Baruch and York.

A non-conference doubleheader is next on tap for Lehman as the Lightning will face College of Mount Saint Vincent and Bard College on the Dolphins home court this Saturday.
