BRONX, N.Y. - Sophomore forward Jerrome Jones' double-double was the difference as the Lehman College men's basketball team rallied past Rutgers-Camden, 75-67, during the 7th Lehman College Coaches vs. Cancer Basketball Classic on Sunday. The two teams were tied at halftime, but the Lightning pulled away in the final 20 minutes. Jones finished with 23 points and grabbed 17 rebounds.

Senior guard Stanley Stephens (New York, N.Y./Manhattan Center) had the hot hand early, scoring the game's first basket with a layup to put Lehman (7-4) up, 2-0, just 43 seconds into the contest. Stephens attacked the paint again for a good bucket to extend Lehman's lead, 6-2, with 17:50 left in the opening half.

Jones (Bronx, N.Y. /Mount Vernon) made a layup with 6:08 remaining to extend Lehman's lead, 21-14. The Scarlet Raptors (2-7) went on a 16-7 run in a span of 4:56 to give the visitors a tenuous two-point lead. The Lightning regained composure, as junior guard Jonathan Greenfield (Hartford, Conn./Windsor) nailed two free throws to tie the game at 30 heading into the break.

Lehman came out sluggish to start the second half as Rutgers-Camden was able to build a three-point lead with 17:39 left in regulation. At that point, the Lightning changed the momentum of the game as Greenfield nailed a shot from beyond the arc to tie the game at 39. The very next defensive possession, junior forward Kevan Proctor (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grand Street Campus) blocked a shot, fed the ball to Greenfield who laid it up and in to give Lehman the lead.

After the Scarlet Raptors pulled back out in front by one, senior guard Kelvin Gil (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) drained a three-point basket to give Lehman the 45-43 lead with 15:33 remaining. The Lightning would never look back, as Gil passed the ball to Jones, who tallied a three-point basket to extend Lehman's lead to four. Stephens added a bucket of his own at the 13:14 mark to give Lehman a six-point advantage.

Jones continued his hot streak, as he nailed another big shot from downtown that gave the home team a 59-51 lead with just 9:19 remaining. He added a layup with 5:32 left in the game to extend Lehman's lead to double figures.

Greenfield finished with 25 points while Gil dished out six assists. Proctor grabbed 11 rebounds, blocked five shots, and had four assists.

The Lightning will kick off the new year with a CUNY Athletic Conference showdown against rival Brooklyn College, on Friday, January 3, as part of a double header with the women. The men are scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 p.m., while the women begin at 5:00 p.m.
