BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's volleyball team split a pair of CUNY Athletic Conference matches on Thursday night, beating John Jay, 3-0, before losing to York, 3-1. Both matches were a part of the CUNY Multi-Match, which also saw Brooklyn College fall to York before beating John Jay.
In the opener against John Jay, Lehman was spotted a 2-0 lead, as John Jay was late to the match. Starting with the third set, Lehman quickly dispatched the Bloodhounds, 25-19. Junior Manuel Bonilla (Bronx, N.Y./Walton) had four kills for Lehman, but it was the service of senior Brian Francisco (Bronx, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) that was most impressive, as he notched six aces.
Against York, Lehman took the first set 25-23, before dropping the next three. Bonilla again was the offensive star, with 11 kills, while Francisco had 17 assists. Bonilla added 20 digs, while Luis Colon (Bronx, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) added 19.
The Lightning will head to Brooklyn College on Saturday, to play in the second CUNYAC Multi-Match of the season. Lehman will face Hunter at 9:00 a.m., and Medgar Evers at 1:00 p.m.
