Box Score

NEW YORK, N.Y. – After winning the first two sets, the Lehman College men's volleyball team dropped the match to the host John Jay Bloodhounds, 3-2. Set scores were 23-25, 24-26, 26-24, 25-22, and 15-8. Lehman evens its record at 10-10 overall, including 2-7 in the CUNYAC, while John Jay is 3-7 and 1-6.

All five sets were extremely competitive, with the lead changing hands throughout.  In the first set, Lehman led 22-17 before John Jay stormed back. With the score tied at 23, senior Brian Francisco (Bronx, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) and junior Andrew Morejon (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) had back-to-back kills to seal the win.

In the second set, John Jay held a 10-4 lead, then 16-8, and ultimately 21-14, before serving for the set at 24-20. Lehman closed out the match with six consecutive points to take the win in dramatic fashion.

The third set saw Lehman jump out early, taking an 8-4 lead on a Morejon service ace. Lehman would lead 24-21 before John Jay pulled off the dramatic win, winning five straight points.

On to the fourth, where Lehman was up 16-12, on a service ace from senior setter Luis Colon (Bronx, N.Y./John F. Kennedy). From there, the Bloodhounds took over, first knotting the game at 18 each, before going on and taking the set.

As play began in the fifth and deciding set, a 4-0 run for John Jay put the hosts up 11-5. A Francisco kill stemmed that run, but the Bloodhounds refused to yield. Francisco has the last of his match-high 27 kills to make the score 14-8, but it was not enough, as John Jay completed the comeback.

Francisco would hit .194 on the night, with hit 27 kills. Morejon hit .152 on 14 kills, while Colon had 34 assists. Francisco was the high man with 12 digs, as Colon and first-year player Ibrahima Souare (Bronx, N.Y./Social Justice) each had ten.

The Lightning look to rebound on Saturday at a tri-match at Bard College, with the College of Mt. St. Vincent.
