Men's Volleyball Overcomes Pesky CMSV Squad, 3-1

BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's volleyball team rallied after losing the first set, and defeated the visiting College of Mt. St. Vincent Dolphins, 3-1. Set scores were 23-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-22. Lehman has now beaten CMSV all three times the teams have met this season.

In the first set, both teams traded points, with Lehman ahead 12-11. From there, the Dolphins (5-18, 3-7 Skyline) went in a 6-0 run to take a commanding lead. Lehman (12-13, 2-9 CUNYAC) rallied, though, and got as close as 23-22, but CMSV was able to close out the set.

In the second, the Dolphins held an 11-7 lead, before the Lightning responded. Lehman chipped away, and took the lead at 14-13. Both teams traded points, and, with the score tied 22-22, Lehman forced several CMSV errors for the win.

The third set saw Lehman go on a 6-0 run to break the set open, while in the fourth, Brian Francisco (Bronx, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) served up back-to-back service aces to put the Lightning ahead for good.

On the evening, Francisco led the lead with 16 kills, 20 digs, and three service aces, while Manuel Bonilla (Bronx, N.Y./Walton) had 12 kills, 13 digs, and a pair of aces. Senior setter Luis Colon (Bronx, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) had 35 assists and eight digs.

Lehman competes again at the CUNYAC Multi-Match on Saturday, March 30, at City College. The Lightning will face Baruch College at 9:00 a.m., and CCNY at 1:00 p.m.
