NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the CUNY Multi-Match on Saturday, falling the #8 Baruch and the hosts, City College.
Against Baruch (25-4, 10-0 CUNYAC), the eighth ranked team in the nation, Lehman could not hold up to the Bearcats' firepower. Junior Manuel Bonilla (Bronx, N.Y./Walton) hit .318 with eight kills to lead the attack. Senior Brian Francisco (Bronx, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) had five kills, while classmate Luis Colon (Bronx, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) had four.
In the second match, against the host Beavers of CCNY (13-13, 6-7 CUNYAC), the match was much more competitive. CCNY took the first set 25-23, before Lehman took the second by the same score. City then took the final two sets, 25-14 and 25-22, for the victory. Francisco had a double-double with 18 kills and ten digs, while Colon matched him with 11 kills and ten digs. However, Bonilla was the star for the Lightning, with 13 kills and a game-high 19 digs. Junior Andrew Morejon (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) was the primary setter, with 36 assists.
The Lightning (12-15, 2-11 CUNYAC) will conclude the regular season on Tuesday, April 2, hosting Medgar Evers College. Prior to the seven o'clock match, a brief ceremony will be held to honor the senior members of the team, who will be playing their last contest in the APEX.
