Men's Volleyball Blasts Mt. St. Vincent, 3-0

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Behind 12 kills by senior Brian Francisco, the Lehman College men's volleyball team won at the College of Mt. St. Vincent on Thursday night, 3-0. Set scores were 25-18, 25-21, 25-16. Lehman has now won two of its last three matches to improve to 8-9 overall, while CMSV drops to 4-12.

Francisco (Bronx, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) powered the Lightning in all three sets. In the first set, he had three quick kills as Lehman jumped out to an 8-2 lead. Later in the set, Lehman held a slim 20-16 lead until Francisco took the serve, and Lehman rattled off three straight points en route to the win.

In the second set, again Lehman jumped out early, before CMSV ultimately took the lead at 22-20. From there, Francisco had a kill for the 23rd point, before serving the final two points for the Lehman win.

In the third and final set, Lehman led 8-6 before going on a 7-1 run to fuel the victory.

Junior hitter Manuel Bonilla (Bronx, N.Y./Walton) was also very effective on the night, hitting .385 with six kills, while classmate Ahmad Abugharbieh (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers) hit .375 with five kills. Bonilla added a team-high 11 digs. Senior Luis Colon (Bronx, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) had a game-high 20 assists.

Lehman is set to host a tri-match on Saturday, facing New England power Regis College at noon, and local rival St. Joseph's of Brooklyn at 2:00 p.m.
