Box Score BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's basketball team defeated Shenandoah University, 78-63, on Monday afternoon, in the first of back-to-back games in the 8th annual CUNY Athletic Conference Coaches vs. Cancer Basketball Classic, hosted by Lehman College.
After trailing 4-2 early in the game, Lehman (6-5) scored the game's next 12 points, in a span of 2:10, to take the lead for good, 14-4, less than four minutes into the game.
After the Hornets (1-8) pulled within three, sophomore forward Driton Hasangjekaj (Bronx, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton) drained a three-point basket to put the home team up, 19-13, with 11:18 remaining in the opening stanza. Senior guard Jonathan Greenfield (Hartford, Conn./Windsor) put a cap on a strong first half for the Lightning, by executing a slam duck with 11 seconds left to extend Lehman's lead to 36-28.
In the second half, the Lightning managed to pull away as junior forward Jerrome Jones (Bronx, N.Y./Mount Vernon) tallied a shot from downtown to give Lehman a 13-point lead, with 16:57 remaining. Jones also added a pair of free throws to give the Lightning their largest lead of the game, 77-60, with just over a minute and a half left. The Lightning would go on to win, 78-63.
Jones tallied a double-double with 20 points and ten rebounds. Junior guard Olando Minott (Bronx, N.Y./Samuel Gompers) tallied 14 points, grabbed seven boards, and forced a game-high five steals. Junior forward Chaun Miller (Brooklyn, N.Y./Eleanor Roosevelt) added 11 points and eight rebounds, while freshman guard John Brens (Washington Heights, N.Y./All Hallows) scored 10 and dished out six assists.
The Lightning will return to the APEX Main Gym for the second day of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, for a non-conference game against Maine Maritime, on Tuesday. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
