BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's volleyball team fell to Bard College, 3-1, on Tuesday evening in the APEX. Set scores were 20-25, 25-21, 25-20, and 25-22. The Lightning (7-12, 2-6 CUNYAC) were able to win the first set, but the Raptors (6-19, 2-9 UVC) won the last three to clinch the match.
In the first set, Lehman led, 17-11, on a kill from junior Miguel Gallardo (Bronx, N.Y./Salesian). Lehman then led 22-20, and scored the final three points to win the set.
In the second, Bard led 20-12, before Lehman rallied. First, sophomore outside hitter Jaleel Lino (Bronx, N.Y./Toledo C.C.) slammed one of his 20 kills on the day, followed by a service ace by freshman Edmond Badu (Kumasi, Ghana/Marble Hill). Lehman would get as close as 23-20, but could not win the set.
In the third, Bard led wire to wire, though Lehman did keep it close. The fourth set saw Lehman ahead at 14-12, as senior Marcos Coto-Batres (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Rye Neck) had his sole service ace of the game. But the Raptors were too strong, and scored four of the last five points to clinch the match.
On the night, Gallardo had 20 assists and 13 digs, while sophomore middle blocker Ramon Jimenez (Bronx, N.Y./George Washington) had three solo blocks and two block assists. Lino finished with 20 kills and 12 digs.
The Lightning now start a two week road swing, and will head to face John Jay on Thursday, March 13.
