NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's volleyball team dropped both matches in the CUNY Athletic Conference Multi-Match, held at Baruch College, on Saturday. The Lightning fell to the host Bearcats, 3-0, then were defeated by City College by the same score.
In the first match against Baruch (23-9, 13-0 CUNYAC), sophomore outside hitter Jaleel Lino (Bronx, N.Y./Toledo C.C.) registered nine kills. Senior outside hitter Miguel Gallardo (Bronx, N.Y./Salesian) had 12 assists and five digs.
In the second match against CCNY, the Lightning (8-17, 3-10 CUNYAC) were engaged in a see-saw affair in the first set, but the Beavers (8-19, 4-9 CUNYAC) were able to pull away and win, 25-22, to go up 1-0 in the match. After dropping the second set, Lehman was able to take an early lead in the third, but CCNY stormed back and hung on to win, 25-21, clinching the match.
Lino led the way for the Lightning with 15 kills and nine digs. Gallardo produced 21 assists and three service aces. Senior middle blocker Ahmad Abugharbieh (Amman, Jordan/Ittihad) tallied nine digs.
The Lightning will conclude the regular season, on the road, on Tuesday, April 1 for a CUNY Athletic Conference showdown with Medgar Evers. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
