BRONX- N.Y. - The Lehman College men's volleyball team split a pair of home matches on Wednesday evening, falling to CUNY Athletic Conference foe, Brooklyn College, 3-1, before beating St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn, 3-0.
In the first match against the Bulldogs (8-8, 4-2 CUNYAC), the Lightning (5-10, 1-5 CUNYAC) got off to a sluggish start, dropping the first set. Lehman would rebound and claim the second set, 25-21, before dropping the last two.
Junior outside hitter Miguel Gallardo (Bronx, N.Y./Salesian) led the way with a double-double of 12 kills and 19 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Jaleel Lino (Bronx, N.Y./Toledo C.C) registered six kills while sophomore middle blocker Ramon Jimenez (New York, N.Y./George Washington) added five kills of his own.
In the second match, the Lightning were able to cruise past the Bears (2-4, 0-0 HVIAC) in straight sets. Lino dominated with 16 kills, six digs, and two service aces. Junior opposite hitter Aldo Pllumbaj (Mohegan Lake, N.Y./Lakeland) added six kills and seven digs, while senior outside hitter Marcos Coto-Batres (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Rye Neck) chipped in with six digs and two service aces.
The Lightning will be back in action on Saturday, March 8, at the CUNYAC Multi-Match, held at John Jay College. Lehman will take on Hunter College at 11:00 a.m. and Medgar Evers College at 1:00 p.m.
