Box Score RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Lehman College men's volleyball team dropped its season opener to the College of Mount Saint Vincent, in straight sets, on Friday evening. Set scores were 25-15, 25-18, and 25-23.
Junior outside hitter Jaleel Lino (Punta Gorda, Belize/Toledo Community College) led the way for the Lightning (0-1) with 13 kills and five digs. Freshman libero Jose Bautista (Bronx, N.Y./H.S. of World Cultures) helped anchor the defense with 10 digs, while junior middle blocker Ramon Jimenez (New York, N.Y./George Washington) added five kills. Senior opposite hitter Miguel Gallardo (Bronx, N.Y./Salesian) had a solid game with five kills, eight assists, and seven digs. Freshman setter Emmanuel Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./Alfred E. Smith) added a team-high 14 assists.
After dropping the first two sets, the Lightning trailed the Dolphins (2-1) 16-9 in the third set. Lehman would rally with an 8-1 run, highlighted by back-to-back kills from Lino, to tie the set at 17. After the College of Mount Saint Vincent regained a one-point lead, Gallardo slammed home a kill to tie the set at 18. The Dolphins scored next to regain the lead but Gallardo struck again with another kill to tie it up at 19. He once again slammed home a kill to even the set at 20. The College of Mount Saint Vincent was able to stop Lehman's rally by scoring five of the next eight points to clinch the set and the match.
Lehman will have its home opener on Thursday, against Yeshiva University, beginning at 8:00 p.m.
