Lehman Down Medgar Evers to Improve to 2-0 in Conference Play

Bronx, NY – Lehman (5-2:2-0) came out firing on all cylinders as the Lightning defeated Medgar Evers (3-5:1-1) 90-76 in the APEX.

Olando Minott netted a game high 22 points on 7 of 15 shooting from the field to pace the Lightning. Team mates Chaun Miller added 19 points while Olusegun Williams scored 12 points. Playing inspired without Niv Solomon, the Lightning shot an impressive 16-31 from the field in the first half while forcing the Cougars into 14 first half turnovers. Lehman jumped out to a 15-6 lead five minutes into the contest and never looked back. "Coach told us we will all have to step up our games with Niv in the line-up," commented Williams. "I think we did that." Three minutes later the lead jumped to double digits where it stayed most of the night. The Lightning led by as many as 18 points in the first half before settling on a 49-33 halt-time advantage.

Late in the game the Cougars did mount a serious comeback. With Lehman owning a 75-51 lead with 7:44 to play the Cougars went on a 22-7 run over the next six and half minutes to cut the Lehman lead to 82-73 with just over a minute to play. However the Lightning would hold fast as they immediately answered with a 7-0 run of their own. During that spur Olando Minott tallied six of the Lightning's seven points.

"Our seniors continue to step," commented Coach Steve Schulman. "For us to be successful this year they will have to continue to rise to the occasion like they did tonight."

The Cougars were led by Andron Thomas and Matthew Lee. The duo combined for 36 points. Medgar Evers did out-rebound the Lightning 44-36.

Lehman is back in action on Tuesday night as they host CUNYAC foe York. Tip-off is slated for 5:00 PM in the APEX.
