Box Score 2 NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Lehman College men's volleyball team settled for a split in the CUNY Athletic Conference Multi-Match, held at Hunter College, on Monday. In the first match, the Lightning came back from two sets down, to defeat CCNY 3-2. In the second contest, Lehman fell to the host Hawks in straight sets.
Set scores for the match against CCNY were 22-25, 22-25, 25-16, 28-26, and 15-11. Junior outside hitter Jaleel Lino (Punta Gorda, Belize/Toledo Community College) helped spark Lehman's rally by slamming home a match-high 29 kills, and had 70 total attacks. Freshman opposite hitter Carlos Segura (Bronx, N.Y./Marble Hill) tallied nine kills and 12 digs.
Senior opposite hitter Miguel Gallardo (Bronx, N.Y./Salesian) had a productive match, tallying eight kills, 13 digs, and 20 assists. Freshman libero Jose Bautista (Bronx, N.Y./H.S. of World Cultures) helped anchor the defense with 15 digs, while freshman setter Emmanuel Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./Alfred E. Smith) had 34 assists.
Lehman rallied but fell short in each of the first two sets. In the third, the Lightning jumped out to an early lead and never looked back to stay alive in the match. In the fourth, Lehman had set-point three times, but CCNY kept tying it up. After regaining the lead, 27-26, the Lightning finally won the fourth stanza, thanks to a kill from Segura. In the rubber set, Lehman fell behind 3-2, but would go on a run to not only win the frame, but complete the comeback and win its third conference match of the year.
In Lehman's loss to Hunter, set scores were 25-11, 25-16, and 25-18. Lino added seven more kills, while Ortiz and Gallardo produced 11 and 10 assists respectively. Bautista once again led the way on defense with seven digs.
The Lightning will be back in CUNY Athletic Conference action on Thursday, for a road match against Brooklyn College, at 7:00 p.m.
