Box Score ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's volleyball team continued its winning ways, by defeating host Bard College in straight sets, on Tuesday evening. Set scores were 25-19, 25-18, and 25-9. The Lightning have now won seven of their last eight matches.
Lehman (8-3) was led by junior Jaleel Lino (Punta Gorda, Belize/Toledo Community College), who had a great night on offense and defense. He produced 13 kills, and recorded just as many digs. Freshman Roberto Ventura Diaz (New York, N.Y./Cardenal Sancha) slammed home 12 kills, while junior Ramon Jimenez (New York, N.Y./George Washington) added six. Senior Miguel Gallardo (Bronx, N.Y./Salesian) tallied nine kills and added three service aces.
In the first set, Bard (5-13) had the lead 11-10, but the Lightning responded by scoring the next four points, highlighted by two kills from Jimenez and one from Gallardo, to take a 14-11 lead. The Lightning would not trail again for the remainder of the frame, as a kill from Lino clinched the first set for Lehman, 25-19.
In the second, a service ace from Gallardo, and a kill from Lino, helped the Lightning jump out to a 4-0 advantage. The Raptors fought back to take a 10-8 lead, but Lehman would counter by scoring the next four points, capped off by a kill from Gallardo. Later in the set, Diaz slammed home back-to-back kills to give the Lightning a 16-12 lead. The Raptors were able to pull within one, but Lino's kill began a 4-0 run for the visitors, that was capped off by a kill from Gallardo, to put the Lightning up 21-17. Lehman went on to win, 25-18, to put the home team on the brink.
The third set started out evenly, tied at six. From there, the Lightning took over by scoring 14 unanswered points, highlighted by four kills from Diaz and two service aces from Gallardo, to give Lehman a commanding 20-6 lead. Lino's 13th kill of the night clinched the set and the match for the Lightning.
Freshman Emmanuel Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./Alfred E. Smith) had 37 assists and eight digs. Gallardo and freshman Carlos Segura (Bronx, N.Y./Marble Hill) each recorded seven digs of their own.
Lehman will travel to Baruch College on Thursday, for a key CUNY Athletic Conference match with the Bearcats. The first serve will take place at 8:00 p.m.
