Box Score BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's volleyball team cruised past Medgar Evers, to earn a CUNY Athletic Conference win in straight sets, on Tuesday evening. Set scores were 25-10, 25-8, and 25-13.
The Lightning (13-9, 6-7 CUNYAC) were led by junior Jaleel Lino (Punta Gorda, Belize/Toledo Community College) who tallied a triple-double with 12 kills, 13 digs, and 10 service aces. Senior Ahmad Abugharbieh (Amman, Jordan/Ittihad) produced six kills and four service aces, while freshman Carlos Segura (Bronx, N.Y./Marble Hill) slammed home four kills and scored nine aces. Junior Ramon Jimenez (New York, N.Y./George Washington) tallied five kills, while freshman Henry Nunez (Bronx, N.Y./Walton) recorded 10 digs.
The Lightning never trailed at any moment in the match. After cruising to victories in the first two sets, the third one was tight early on. Lehman had a narrow 10-8 lead, but would pull away thanks to scoring six out of the next seven points, highlighted by three consecutive service aces from Segura, to extend the lead to 16-9. With Lehman at set-point, Nunez tallied a kill to clinch Lehman's sixth conference win of the season.
On Saturday, the Lightning will battle the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island, as part of the CUNYAC Multi-Match held on the campus of the City College of New York, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Later that day, Lehman and Medgar Evers (2-20, 1-12 CUNYAC) will have a rematch, at 1:00 p.m.
