Box Score 2 QUEENS, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's volleyball team dropped a pair of contests at the CUNY Athletic Conference Multi-Match, held at York College, on Saturday afternoon. In the first match, Lehman fell to defending conference champion Baruch College in straight sets. In the second match, Lehman lost to John Jay, 3-1.
Against Baruch, set scores were 25-21, 25-10, and 25-13. Junior Jaleel Lino (Bronx, N.Y./Toledo Community College) led the Lightning on offense with eight kills. Freshman Carlos Segura (Bronx, N.Y./Marble Hill) added six kills, while senior Ahmad Abugharbieh (Amman, Jordan/Ittihad) produced five. Senior Miguel Gallardo (Bronx, N.Y./Salesian) helped anchor the defense with 12 digs.
In the match against John Jay, the Lightning dropped the first two sets but bounced back to win the third, 25-22. In the fourth stanza, the Bloodhounds scored the last two points to win the set, 25-23, and clinch the match.
Lino once again led the way offensively, slamming home 18 kills, and contributed on the defensive end with nine digs. Gallardo tallied a double-double with 10 kills and 21 digs. Junior Ramon Jimenez (New York, N.Y./George Washington) recorded eight kills and seven digs, while Abugharbieh added eight digs. Freshman Emmanuel Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./Alfred E. Smith) had 36 assists and seven digs. Lino and Abugharbieh each tallied two solo blocks.
The Lightning will return to the APEX Main Gym, on Thursday, for a CUNYAC match against Hunter College. The first serve will take place at 6:00 p.m.
