Lightning and Beavers Set to Battle on the APEX Hardwood as Lehman Recognizes the Alumni

Bronx, NY - Lehman will celebrate Homecoming as the Lightning host CCNY on Saturday afternoon.  The women will start things off at noon.  Lehman fresh off an key road victory Wednesday night at Brooklyn sits tied for first place in the CUNYAC with Brooklyn and Staten Island; each with two losses. 

The Lightning (13-6:8-2) defense was impressive once again as they were able to force 26 turnovers and limit the Bulldogs to 19-70 (27%) from the floor.  Amely Del Rosario, the conference player of the week for two weeks running, led all scorers with 23 points to go along with four steals, three assists and three rebounds. Karrin Walker posted her seventh double-double in nine games, finishing with 15 points and pulling down a team-best 11 boards. Jennifer Navarro finished with 16 points and four assists while Yarmese Jones went for 13, her third highest total of the season.

The Beavers (12-7:7-3) routed Hunter 58-34 in a mid-week tilt are now just one game behind in the loss column.   Tiara Brown notched her 13th double-double of the season with 17 points and 16 rebounds. Erika Richards added 16 points for the Beavers, while Marissa Olsen recorded a season-high nine boards. City caused Hunter to commit 26 turnovers, which is the most by an opponent this season and then turned those turnovers into 20 points. 

This is the first meeting of the season between the two teams.  The Beavers and Lightning will also lace em up on Sunday, February 14 in Nat Holman Gymnasium on the CCNY campus.

The men's game is scheduled to tip at 3:00 PM.  Lehman (14-6:8-3) suffered a heart breaking overtime loss 100-99 at Brooklyn this past Wednesday night.  The Lightning were led by Chaun Miller who matched a career-high with 30 points to go along with eight rebounds. Miller hit a huge three-pointer to tie the game at the end of regulation, sending it into overtime. Edwin Pascual finished with a career-high 23 points while dishing out a team-high six assists, coming away with four steals and making seven of eleven shots from the floor. Olando Minott finished with 18 points, while Olusegun Williams posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 boards.  The Lightning now sit in second place in the conference with three losses. 

CCNY (11-8:6-5) downed Hunter 84-73 three days ago.  Khalil Hamer led the Beavers with 22 points. Both David Solano and Blake Borysewicz added 14 each and Mark Richards recorded 13. Borysewicz's 14 points stands as his career-high points in a game. Solano also tallied three steals which is a career-high.  On the game, City shot .534 from the field, .500 from behind the arc and .700 from the charity stripe.

Earlier this season, the Lightning defeated the Beavers 70-69 in Manhattan.  John Brens provided the heroics for the Lightning as the sophomore drained one of two free throws with 10 seconds remaining to secure the victory.

In between games the alumni will take to the court.  In a coed contest that is very entertaining, former players will shuttle in and out and relive their glory days.  The game typically comes down to the final possession as women's Head Coach Eric Harrison, acting as referee has been known to play a pivotal role in a fun filled atmosphere. 

After the men's game, Cheryl Kramer, the wife of legendary coach Ed Kamer will present an MVP trophy to the most deserving Lehman player. 

The Lightning return to action on Friday night, Febraury 5 to host Baruch in a key CUNYAC match-up. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has designated the contest as a "White Out."  All fans are encouraged to wear white.  Fans entering the APEX with a valid Lehman ID will be given a free commemorative t-shirt while supply lasts.
