Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College tied a school record with their 12th straight victory and 13th win in a season as they defeated both Hunter and York, 9-0, in a CUNYAC doubleheader Saturday afternoon at the APEX Courts. In a pre-match ceremony Lehman College President Jose Luis Cruz and Director of Athletics
Dr. Martin L. Zwiren congratulated the seniors and the team on their accomplishments this year. Team captain
Kantomalala Rasedoara presented the President with a game ball that the coaching staff usually presents to a player after the match.
The Lightning (13-1, 5-1 CUNYAC) secures their spot in second place in the conference behind Baruch as the regular season comes to a close. They also celebrated Senior Day for the four seniors on the team, as the department recognized
Sacha Espiritu, Kantomalala Rasedoara, Lynessa George and
Patricia Cadet for their efforts on the court during their college career.
Lehman took all matchups in the early contest with the Hawks, as Espiritu grabbed a No. 1 singles win on a retirement.
Lizaveta Markouskaya won 6-3, 6-3 at No.2 while
Mami Aoki (6-1, 6-0), George (6-3, 6-0), Rasedoara (6-4, 6-1) and
Toyosi Adebayo (6-1, 6-1) all clinched singles wins down the board.
Espiritu and Markouskaya held on to secure the No.1 doubles matchup at 8-6. George and Rasedoara won 8-3 in No.2, and Aoki and
Elizareta Ostanina closed out with an 8-2 victory in No.3 doubles for the match win.
In the 9-0 win over York, Lehman won secured all six singles and three doubles matches in impressive fashion. Markouskaya at No. 1 singles earned a 6-1, 6-0 win while Aoki, Cadet, Ostanina, and
Nadia Baba recorded 6-0, 6-0 wins in their matchups from No. 2 to No. 5.
Leslie Juanacio closed out singles play with an 8-1 win in the No. 6 spot.
On the doubles side, George and Rasedoara notched an 8-0 win in the No.1 doubles slot. Markouskaya and Aoki in the No.2 spot won 8-0, while Adebayo and
Akua Duodu sealed the sweep with an 8-0 victory in No.3 doubles.
As the number-two seed in the CUNYAC, the Lightning will prepare for the CUNYAC Conference championship semifinals that will take place October 25th at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
