Lightning Athletics Prepare for Busy Saturday of Matchups

Bronx, N.Y. –  This Saturday includes a jam-packed slate of matchups for Lehman College Athletics through three different sports.

The men's and women's swimming and diving teams travel to New Jersey as they face off in a dual meet with Ramapo College, the men's and women's indoor track squads begin their season up at West Point and the men's and women's basketball teams kick off their December schedule with a doubleheader against CUNYAC foe John Jay.

The women's basketball team (2-2, 1-0 CUNYAC) looks for back-to-back conference victories, coming off a 78-44 win over John Jay Tuesday night. Lynda Fields shot 13-for-24 from the field, including four-for-nine from three-point range for a career-high 35 points.

Amely Del Rosario added 20 points along with eight rebounds and five assists, while Salima Sangare posted a double-double with a career-high 10 points and 11 boards.

The CUNYAC Preseason Player of the Year nominee Del Rosario is continuing her stellar senior season by currently leading the team, conference and all of NCAA Division-III with 32.0 points per game. Fields ranks second in the conference with 21.3 points per contest. Both rank in the CUNYAC top-10 in assists, while Shakia Artist is first in blocked shots.

Lehman (2-3, 0-1 CUNYAC) aims to get back to .500 and grab their first conference victory of the season after falling to CCNY Tuesday night, 74-66 at the APEX Center. John Brens paced the team with 13 points and four assists.  Andrew Utate added 12 points four assists and three steals while Ed Pasquale chipped in 11 points in a losing effort.

Utate currently leads the team and ranks in the top-10 of the conference with 14.6 points per game, ninth with 3.2 assists per game and is the top rebounder on the squad with 5.8 boards per contest. Brens is one of the top distributors in the CUNYAC, ranking second with 5.0 assists per game.

The team will face a Bloodhounds team (0-5, 0-1 CUNYAC) looking for their first win, losing their last matchup by just two points against Staten Island, 60-58, Tuesday night.

The men's swimming team (3-1) is coming off a dominant 128.5-85.5 victory November 19th over Purchase College as part of a dual meet. Christopher Fischer finished first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.45. Fischer would also claim the 100-yard freestyle at 55.17. He also grabbed first as part of a relay team in the men's 200-yard freestyle relay at 1:40.47

Adam Acevedo earned a first-place win in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.58, while also securing the 100-yard butterfly at 58.47. Juan Toribio earned the best scores in the 3-meter and 1-meter dives with final marks of 176.33 and 187.58, respectively.

They will be facing a Ramapo team who has lost two straight meets against The College of New Jersey and Rowan then took part in the three-day long F&M Invitational, where they finished in seventh place.

On the women's side, the Lightning (2-3) dropped a meet against CUNYAC foe Hunter Tuesday night, 51-31. The Roadrunners (1-2) are coming off the F&M Invitational, where they finished in ninth place. They also lost to Rowan and College of New Jersey earlier in the month of November. Start time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Adele & Reuben Thomas Pool in Mahwah.

The Lehman College men's and women's indoor track and field teams kick off their 2016-17 campaign, when they head to West Point to take part in the Army Crowell Open Saturday at 12:00 p.m. The indoor track squads will start their eight-meet campaign Saturday.
