Lightning Keep the Dolphins in Check

Staten Island, NY -  Lehman (3-4:2-1) came out on top, 3-1, of a hard fought battle over the College of Staten Island (0-5:0-3). 

Orlando Vargas, the reigning CUNYAC Player of the Week led the way with 23 kills on 43 attacks.  Ramon Jimenez added 11 kills.  Emmanuel Ortiz registered 34 assists.  Henry Nunez and Jose Bautista added 10 digs apiece. 

The Dolphins are still looking for their first victory of the season, after falling by scores of 25-20, 15-25, 25-19 and 28-26.  CSI was led by Justin Edwardsen's 10 kills.  Brandon Lei added 29 assists.

In the first set the Lightning jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back.  After the Dolphins won the second set, the first set they won this season, they jumped out to a 5-0 in the third.  However, the Lightning rallied to tie the set at eight.  With the score tied at 10, Lehman went on an 8-2 spurt to take control of the set.  The Dolphins were able to cut the deficit to two, 19-17 but could not get any closer.  The fourth set was the most competitive of the night.  Lehman jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and extended their advantage to seven (16-9) before the Dolphins rallied tying the set at 17.  The rest of the set neither team was able to produce a lead greater than two points.  With the set tied at 26 the Lightning were able to prevail and earn the victory. 

Lehman is back in action on Monday.  The Lightning will face CCNY and Hunter in matches that will be contested at John Jay College beginning at 11:00 AM.
