Orlando Vargas tallied 16 kills as the Lehman College men's volleyball team earned their first win of the season on Wednesday night, defeating the visiting team from Yeshiva University in three sets, 25-18, 25-8, 25-22 at the APEX Gymnasium in the Bronx.
The Lightning of Lehman (1-3) took their first win of the year. Vargas also recorded six service aces.
Emmanuel Ortiz finished with a season-high 33 set assists, in addition to four service aces and a team-best nine digs.
Henry Nunez contributed five kills, two service aces and seven digs, while
Ramon Jimenez added eight kills.
The Maccabees of Yeshiva (0-4) were led by Michael Klein with four kills and three service aces.
Lehman got off to a great start, winning the first 11 rallies of the first set, including ten off Vargas' serve. That set the tempo for the rest of the match.
The Lightning of Lehman College are back on the court this Saturday when they travel down to Baruch College for a CUNYAC Multi-Match against York College and Brooklyn College.
