Box Score Queens, NY – The Lehman College volleyball team defeated York College for the second time this season and move into sixth place in the CUNYAC standings and secure the sixth seed in the post-season tournament which begins next Tuesday night. Lehman now stands at 6-10 in the CUNYAC and 8-17 overall. The Cardinals fall to 9-7 in league play and 12-20 overall.
Lehman won the first set 25-18 and dropped the second 25-13 before rallying to win the third and fourth sets by scores of 25-12 and 25-14.
Orlando Vargas led the way with 17 kills.
Ramon Jimenez and
Henry Nunez were credited with 14 and 10 kills respectively.
Emmanuel Ortiz led all players with 46 assists. Vargas was also credited with four service aces.
After the teams traded sets the Lightning took control in the third. Leading 8-7, Lehman went on an 11-2 run to take control of the set. The Cardinals were unable to get any closer as the Lightning cruised to victory. In the fourth set, with the Lightning leading 11-8, Lehman scored the next seven points en route to winning the set and the match 3-1.
Randy Adams led the Cardinals with 15 kills and 15 assists. York has secured the fourth seed and will host CCNY on Tuesday night in the quarter-finals.
Lehman will travel to John Jay next Tuesday night for a quarter-final match. Game time has yet to be announced.
