Bronx, N.Y. -- The Lehman College men's basketball team led at half then continued their torrid shooting in the second as they defeated York (N.Y.), 86-71, Wednesday night in CUNYAC play at the APEX Center.

The Lightning (11-8, 7-4 CUNYAC) have now won three straight games and four straight at home. The victory moves the team one game back from Baruch at third place in the conference.

Jean Marcial and
Luis Hernandez each led five players in double figures for Lehman. Marcial poured in 16 points along with six rebounds, while Hernandez scored 16 off the bench and added two steals and two assists.
Andrew Utate chipped in with 15 points and dished out a game-high seven assists with four boards.
Damian Bellamy fell one rebound shy of a double-double (14 points, nine rebounds) and
Mylo Mitchell added 10.

The Cardinals (2-17, 2-9 CUNYAC) were led by Edwin Sainvil, who tallied a game-high 20 points in a losing effort. Jean Joseph scored 19 points, while Ryan Smart compiled a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds.

Lehman and York played a relatively even matchup in the first half. After Sainvil's layup cut the Lightning lead to 32-31 with 1:23 remaining, a Edwin Pasquale layup and a Hernandez three-point play send the team up 37-31 at half.

In the second, Lehman would shot a scorching 63% (17-for-27) throughout the stanza to finish 54.5% overall on the game. They would dish out 20 assists on 30 total field goals and would knock down 12 of their 22 free throws (22-for-30, 73.3% free throws) in the half after a wave of technical fouls with 3:38 remaining to seal the game.

Up next is Homecoming Saturday afternoon as the team will face off with CUNYAC opponent John Jay College as part of a doubleheader with the women's team. Tip time is 3:00 p.m. after the women's game at 12, and the alumni game will tip in between the two games.
