Swimmers Host Brooklyn……Basketball Hosts York

Bronx, NY - The men's and women's swimming and diving teams will host Brooklyn in their final tune-up before the CUNYAC Championships.  Before tonight's meet the Lightning will recognize the five seniors on the squad in a pre-meet ceremony. Meanwhile the basketball teams will take on York.

The Lehman women are coming off a pair of victories in which they defeated conference foes John Jay and York.  Lehman now stands at 4-7 overall and 2-3 in the conference.  Brooklyn is 2-7 overall and 2-3 in the conference.  The Bulldogs are riding a six game losing streak.  The winner of today's meet will take fourth in the final conference standings while the loser will drop to fifth. Tonight's men's meet will determine the third and fourth place finisher in the conference.  Both teams are sporting a 1-2 CUNYAC mark.  The Lightning defeated York last week to snap a five game skid.

Action from the APEX pool begins at 6:00 pm.

The Lightning men will open the double header at 5:00 pm against the Cardinals.  Both teams stepped out of conference play on Monday night.  Lehman defeated St. Joseph's (LI) 86-71 to move to 10-8 while York fell to Ramapo 97-63 to fall to 2-16.  Vince Young led a balanced scoring attack for the Lightning as the sharp shooter scored 14 points on 6 of 7 shooting from the field.  Andrew Utate added 13 points while Mylo Mitchell and Damian Bellamy tallied 12 apiece.  Newcomer Juan Carlos Guzman Nieves chipped in 10 points.  Four players are averaging double figures for the Cardinals.  York is being led by Edwin Sainvil 17.7 ppg, Rayn Smart 13.4 ppg, Jean Joseph 12 ppg and Ryan St. John 11.2 ppg.  Earlier this season the Lightning defeated York 69-59 in Jamaica.  Lehman battled back from an eight point deficit to win by double figures thanks in part to a season high 30 points by Mylo Mitchell

The Lightning women had their seven game winning streak snapped by #2 Amherst College on Monday night.  Despite 21 points from Amely Del Rosario, Lehman came out on the short end and fell to 10-8.  In case you missed it, Del Rosario garnering national attention as she was mentioned in Newsweek and in Sports Illustrated Faces in the Crowd.  Last week the Cardinals snapped a 10 game skid with a 62-54 victory over Medgar Evers.  York was forced to play the final three plus minutes with four players due to foul trouble.  Sheahna Rosche led the Cardinals with 20 points and nine rebounds.  Evanda Redwood added 17 points and six rebounds in the victory.  The teams met three weeks ago in Jamaica with Lehman running away with a 74-45 victory.  Lynda Fields led the Lightning with 25 points while Del Rosario netted 22 points.  Krystal Pearson came off the bench to add a double double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
