Box Score 2 Bronx, N.Y. – In their 2017 home opener, the Lehman College men's volleyball team gave a valiant effort but fell in straight sets to Southern Virginia, 3-0 [15-25, 20-25, 16-25], and Rutgers-Newark, 3-0 [10-25, 19-25, 20-25], as part of a home tri-match at the APEX Center.
Yordy Diaz led the Lightning (0-4) in a losing effort, compiling 19 total kills including 11 in the second match against Rutgers. He also added 11 digs and an assist.
Roberto Ventura Diaz slammed 14 kills in the tri-match to go with 11 digs. Also,
George Montilla chipped in with nine kills in the two matches, while
Emmanuel Ortiz dished off 10 assists in the Southern Virginia game and 11 in the Rutgers matchup.
Alma Ray led Southern Virginia with six kills, while Paul Clark and Colby Wilson each notched four in the three-set victory.
For Rutgers-Newark, Corey Pieper tallied a match-high 14 kills and four service aces along with nine digs and a block in the win.
In the neutral matchup, Southern Virginia defeated Rutgers-Newark in four sets.
