Box Score Post Match Interview with Coach Ebbesen
Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College recorded their first win of the 2017 season, winning in four sets over non-conference New Jersey City, 3-1 [25-18, 25-12, 13-25, 25-17], Monday night at the APEX Center.
Roberto Ventura Diaz led the Lightning (1-4) with 14 kills in the victory.
Yordy Diaz added 13 kills of his own along with a team-best 11 digs.
Yaw Eshun added six kills and five blocks, while
George Montilla (18) and
Emmanuel Ortiz (17) each dished out double-figure assists.
The Gothic Knights (0-1) were paced by Julian Moreira who slammed a team-high 11 kills, while Jonathan Andrews chipped in with 10 kills of his own in a losing effort.
Lehman played with great energy throughout the match, winning the first set 25-18 thanks to an 8-2 run led by kills by Montilla and Diaz to go along with some New Jersey City mishaps and an Eshun kill sealed the set. They jumped ahead early in the second, and scored eight of the final nine points due to a handful of Gothic Knights attack errors.
In the third, New Jersey City battled back from down 8-3 in the set to rattle off 12 of the next 14 points and would roll to a 23-15 win. The fourth set saw the teams trade the lead, but Lehman would take control of the set and would clinch the four-set win. Diaz totaled five kills in the set, and Ventura Diaz would add four including the match point.
Up next for the Lightning is a beginning of a road matchup against the College of Mount Saint Vincent Wednesday night. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Riverdale.
