Lightning to Host Baruch in Key CUNYAC Match-Up

Bronx, NY – The Lightning and Bearcats are set to tangle on the APEX hardwood tonight.  The women's will take center stage at 5:00 pm with the men's game to follow.

The Lightning women have won 9 of their last 10.  Their only blemish was to #2 Amherst.  In their last outing, Lehman defeated John Jay during the annual homecoming celebration that paid tribute to the 2007 Lehman Championship team.  The Lightning defeated the Bloodhounds for the second time this year, 87-66.  Amley Del Rosario led five players in double figures, scoring 19 points.  She was also credited with five assists, four steals, and six rebounds.  Krystal Pearson added 18 points and five rebounds while Marika Gordon posted a double double (12 points and 11 rebounds).  Lisa and Lynda Fields combines for 30 points and eight assists.  The Lightning sit at 12-8:10-2, one half game up on Brooklyn in second place in the CUNYAC. 

The Bearcats sit in fourth place in the conference with a record of 9-10 overall and 8-3 in the conference.  This past weekend the Bearcats earned at hard fought 66-59 victory over CCNY.  Kristen Podlovits paced Baruch with 21 points as only five players scored points.  Podlovits leads the conference in assists.  Three Bearcats, Podlovits, Shannon Barrett and Veronica Ganzi lead the conference in minutes played.  All three are averaging 38 minutes per game.

The Lightning men have now won four straight including a trio of conference home games.  In their most recent outing, Lehman defeated John Jay 80-72.  Andrew Utate led the way with a game high 20 points on 6-8 shooting.  Jean Marcial added 19 points while Damian Bellamy chipped in 15 points while grabbing 9 rebounds.  Mylo Mitchell added a game high six assists to go along with 10 points and five rebounds.  Luis Hernandez was credited with 11 points and five assists.  Lehman currently sits in tied for second in the CUNYAC at 12-8 overall and 8-4.  Baruch is a half game back in fourth with a record of 14-6:7-4. 

The Bearcats have dropped their last two including a 73-69 decision against City.  Baruch was down 15 at halftime and battled back to within two but clutch free throws sealed the victory.   Chimaechi Ekekeugbor led the way with 29 points and six rebounds.  Bryler Paige added 12 points in the losing effort.  Baruch leads the conference in scoring defense giving up only 67 points per night.  The Lightning average 80.  The Lightning are also the top field goal shooting team in the league at .465 while Baruch leads the conference in field goal defense at .397.
