Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's basketball team used hot shooting and great passing to clamp down and soundly defeat Hunter College, 79-57, Monday night at the APEX Center.
The wire-to-wire win moves the Lightning (7-7, 4-3 CUNYAC) within a game of both CCNY and Hunter of third place in the conference.
Luis Hernandez came off the bench and provided a game-high 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting along with six rebounds and three assists in the win.
Jean Marcial added 16 points with four assists, four steals and four boards while
Mylo Mitchell chipped in with 11 points. This week's CUNYAC Rookie of the Week
Damian Bellamy also provided seven points, nine rebounds and two blocks.
For the Hawks (6-8, 4-2 CUNYAC) Gio Gabbidon was the lone player in double figures, scoring 12 points in a losing effort.
Lehman shot 49.2% from the field, including an even 50% in the second half (14-for-28) and poured in 40 points in the paint as they never trailed. They excelled at quickening the pace of the game, scoring 20 fast break points. The team also played an unselfish brand of basketball, dishing out 18 assists on 29 total field goals in the contest.
Up next for the Lightning is a CUNYAC matchup on the road with Medgar Evers Friday night as part of a doubleheader with the women's team. Tip time is set for 8:00 p.m. at the Cougars Cave.
