Lycoming, Pa.- After capturing the second-straight CUNYAC championship, the Lehman College men's soccer team will open play as the conference's automatic qualifier at Lycoming on Saturday at 11:00 AM. The Lightning also captured the regular-season title in the CUNYAC.
The upcoming matchup with the Warriors marks the third time in program history that the Lehman men's soccer team has competed in the NCAA championship. They are still looking for their first-ever victory after falling to Rowan College last year, 4-0 and losing to Steven's Tech, 3-0, back in 2011. The matchup with Lycoming marks the inaugural meeting between these two programs.
2017 was an historic one for the Lehman College men's soccer team. En route to winning its second-straight CUNYAC championship, the team didn't concede a goal during conference play. Conversely, the Lightning boasted the CUNYACs leading goal-scorer in
Salh Alzubidi and outscored their opponents 40-14 to date. Alzubidi accounted for over a third of the team's total scoring output this season (37), en route to leading the CUNYAC in goals (18) and points (37).
Alzubidi, in his first year at Lehman, was named the CUNYAC Player of the Year at the conclusion of the 2017 campaign. Additionally,
Shevante Scott,
Nabi Ben Bangoura,
Abdoulaye Bassirou and
Chris Mulholland were all named CUNYAC All Stars. Scott totaled eight points on the year and even scored a marker in the conference championship. Bangoura and Bassirou anchored a back line that helped goalie, Mulholland, register ten clean sheets for the year.
The Warriors enter the game following their third MAC Commonwealth championship in the last five years. They tied a program record with 18 wins and are ranked, nationally, in several polls.
The winner of this contest faces the winner of the second game on Saturday, Franklin & Marshall versus Drew on Sunday, November 12 at 1PM in the second-round game. The loser of the Lycoming-Lehman game will see their season end.
Tickets will be available at the Shangraw Athletic Complex Mulberry Street gate on Saturday and Sunday for $6 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and $3 for students and $2 for children aged 3-to-12. No athletic passes will be honored.
