Post match interview with Ventura Diaz
Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's volleyball team continued their winning ways, earning an exciting straight-set victory over CUNYAC foe Brooklyn College, 3-0 [25-20, 25-22, 25-17], Tuesday night at the APEX Center.
The Lightning (14-9, 6-1 CUNYAC) have now won their seventh straight victory, and are currently in a tie for second place with Baruch while trailing top-seeded Hunter by a game.
Roberto Ventura Diaz led the charge for Lehman, slamming a game-high 18 kills while also adding two service aces and six digs. They got 15 kills from
Yordy Diaz and six from
Yaw Eshun in the win.
Emmanuel Ortiz dished out a team-best 25 assists and continues to pace NCAA Division III with three more aces.
Brooklyn (12-8, 5-2 CUNYAC) got a team-high 10 kills from Vaughn Titus, while Rudy Zhao and Seva Tsyupa added four kills each in a losing effort.
Lehman was a force all match long, slamming a total of 47 kills in the three sets. They compiled a hitting percentage of .284, including a .458 in the third and final set of the win. They jumped ahead early in the first set and despite Brooklyn cutting the deficit to three were victorious following two Y. Diaz to close the stanza.
In the second, the Lightning pushed the lead to 18-9 but Brooklyn didn't give up and were within 23-22 after an impressive rally. However, Lehman closed it out with a
Peter Veljovic kill and a Brooklyn attack error. They would really hit the ball well in the third, and would secure the win at 25-17 on a Y. Diaz kill.
Coming up for the Lightning is a critical CUNYAC matchup in their regular season finale, as they host top-seeded Hunter College next Tuesday. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m. at the APEX Center, and LehmanAthletics.com will have live stats and streaming video.
