York Cardinals Come to the APEX

Bronx, NY – The Lehman College men's and women's basketball teams will host York College in a CUNYAC basketball doubleheader this evening.

The men will take to the hardwood at 5:30 PM as the Lightning (14-4:9-1) will seek revenge from an early loss to the Cardinals in Jamaica.  It is Lehman's only conference defeat of the season.  Lehman is led by a quartet of seniors.  All four are averaging double figures.  Luis Hernandez is averaging 18.1 points per game and shooting an impressive .561 from the field.  Andrew Utae is averaging 16.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per night.  Mylo Mitchell is averaging 13.6 points and is shooting .466 from behind the three point arc.  Jean Marcial is chipping in 11.2 points per contest.  In their most recent outing the Lightning cruised to an 80-56 victory to extend their winning streak to six.  York (5-12:3-7) suffered a heart breaking 74-72 defeat at the hands of Medgar Evers as their comeback fell short.  It was their fourth straight loss. The Cardinals are led by Edwin Sainvil and Ryan Smart.  Sainvil averages 15.2 points per game and leads the team in assists.  Smart is averaging a double double scoring 13.9 points and grabbing 11 rebounds per contest.

The women's game will tip off at approximately 7:30 PM.  The Lightning look to rebound from a 74-57 setback at Brooklyn College.  Lehman (10-9:6-4) was led by Lynda Fields, Aliyah Dorsett and Lisa FieldsLynda Fields scored a game high 23 points.  Her 16.3 points per game average leads the team.  Dorsett posted her second double double of the season scoring 12 points while grabbing 10 rebounds.  Lisa Fields scored 14.  Three weeks ago the Lightning traveled to York and came away with a 69-49 victory.  The Cardinals (5-12:3-7) have won two of their last three including a 13 point victory over Medgar Evers on Monday night.  Leading scorer Karen Bellamy tallied 23 points.
