Lightning Start New Year with a Trip to Staten Island

The Lehman College men's and women's basketball teams will travel to Staten Island to face the always tough Dolphins in a pair of CUNYAC league games later today.

The Lehman women (6-5:2-1) look to take down the league leader who is unblemished in conference play with a 3-0 mark and an overall record of 8-2.  A quartet of Lightning are averaging double figures.  Lynda Fields leads Lehman with a 14.8 points per game average.  Ayanna Behagen is chipping in 12.8 points while Lillybeth Garcia and Lisa Fields are adding 11.3 and 11.1 points per game respectively.  The Dolphins are led Christina Pasaturo and Samantha Flecker.  Pasaturo the pre-season player of the year is averaging 24.4 points per game while Flecker is chipping in 13.1 points and grabbing 6.7 rebounds per contest.

The men's game features a pair of undefeated CUNYAC squads.  Lehman enters the game with a record of 7-3:3-0 while the Dolphins own a 4-6:3-0 mark. Their last time out the Lightning had their five game winning streak snapped by a strong SUNY POLY team in the finals of the 11th Annual Coaches vs  Cancer Tournament.  The Dolphins have dropped their last two (Salisbury and Roanoke).  A trio of Lehman players are averaging more than 16 points per game.  Mylo Mitchell, Andrew Utate, Luis Hernandez along with Jean Marcial continue their stellar play.  Mitchell leads the way with a 16.5 points per game average while shooting over 60% from the field and 59% from behind the three point arc.  Utate is chipping in 16.3 points per night and leads the team in rebounding at 5.6 per game.  Hernandez is tallying 16.2 points per contest and leads the team with 49 assists.  Marcial is adding10.9 points and 5 rebounds per contest.  Christian Taylor (14.8 ppg & 5.2 rpg) and Adeola Latunji (12.3 ppg & 4.6 rpg) pace the Dolphins.
